R.I.P Lebanon 1943-2008.

The past ten days were hell (for personal reasons). I felt so angry on so many levels; I even questioned God and his wisdom. As I was getting closure and trying to revert back to normal life; I was slapped with yet a greater evil than death; the evil of those who inflict death. “Samir Al Kuntar”.
Being incapacitated (due to a minor motorbike incident) I spent the afternoon glued to my TV set watching the shameful parade being broadcasted on many local and Arab TV stations. A child killer was given a hero’s welcome, and Lebanon (my country) has once more shown to the CIVILIZED world that it was nothing more than 10452 Km2 of scum. “al silah zinat al rijal” I heard uttered from the mouth of our “divine leader”. Emile (in all his glory) was drooling (or smiling, I could never tell the difference). Suleiman, Saniora and Berri were anxiously waiting at “Hariri’s” airport the return of their prodigal son, even Georges Adwan took part in this shameful celebration. A few hours earlier we had the privilege of seeing our newly elected government members (all dressed in white) parade at the Baabda palace for the inaugural picture. Maybe they should have waited a few hours so that Kuntar could join. After hearing his speech (in well spoken Arabic) it would not have surprised me.
Hizbollah has won, and has taken over MY country.
A battalion of “moukawimin” in full army gear was a cruel reminder that 120000 (accounted for) martyrs have died in vain.
Saad Hariri’s stupid smile (and his goatee) is another clear sign of defeat.
George Adwan’s presence at the “festivities” is a clear picture of whose (tied arse) you should lick in fear.
Walid Jumblat’s (but not Ghazi Al Aaridi, his lackey) absence (today, but not tomorrow) is an indication of whom is dictating the future of MY country.
Michel Aoun (the demented general) I don’t even need to comment !
Nasser Kandil was the epitome of days supposedly gone (but not forgotten).
Last but not least, Olmert , for having plunged Lebanon (once again) deep into the abyss.
Full honours were deployed, even the presidential “helicopter” since we cannot afford an “air force one”; only to see that the Lebanese government (with all its institutions) was over shadowed by the Hizb’s military machine (even a cavalry).
Kiss ikhtkoun killkoun (politicians that is), starting with the LF and ending with Ali Kanso in his white safari suite.
Mr. Chamoun was the only voice of reason today, for he has said what (I hope) many of us feel.
I am Lebanese with a dual nationality (second being British) , and today I feel ashamed of my citizenship of birth.

Today, I feel the pain and the disappointment of the Haran family. Moreover I cry for all those who died (Lebanese) during the 15 years of civil war for their (at times twisted) notion of a free Lebanon.
Fuck you all who rejoiced today.I am Lebanese, and you are NOT !

Kryptonite !

On Thursday you were laid to rest.
I still cannot find the words to express my sorrow and anger. Upon Alan’s arrival we went through the laptop you left to your dad and started reading some of the articles you wrote, and sifted through the music you had left on the hard drive. On the way back home I had a small accident which delayed (but did not stop) my getting behind my PC and listening to “Jive Bunny” followed by “patience”. For a while I was at peace until I saw the sadness in Tarek’s eyes. This same sadness I witnessed in everyone I saw this past week, but it did not alleviate my pain. Family members, and your friends were present daily shedding rivers of tears, but my eyes never cried in public once. I still can picture you smiling and mumbling (after a few Vodka’s) words with your soft toned voice and me saying “come again?” . Tarek was anxiously waiting the 23rd to have the celebratory beer in honor of your 28th birthday and wake you up bright and early the next morning so he could kick your ass at Fifa 2008.
While going through pictures and memories, I came across your superman painted chest (Tarek has it know on his MSN account). Today your friend Hussein was telling the story behind it, along with other tales of your life in Dubai and Beirut. You are a Superman, and just like him I await to hear more of your adventures.
I guess you know now that your passing has somehow mended the rift you always tried to fill. There is still work to be done, granted; but leaps were achieved.
Alec, you are this cursed family’s guardian angel. In your passing you did what Jeddo Selim did in his living. I just hope that we ALL will live up to your memory.

A beautiful soul is no longer with us !

Today I have lost a cousin (more like a brother) in his prime. A kid filled with happiness regardless of the bad cards life had dealt him. Alec was always filled with joy and laughter (half blind, mind you)and played rugby from his 1.(short)m in height. Today Alec has departed, for greener pastures I am sure of that. I am at a loss of words, therefore I will leave it to my 12 year old son to write on my behalf his eulogy.

My musical dedication to Michel Aoun, the demanted general!

With a few words alterations (replace "MUSIC" with "SPEECHES" and "YOU'RE" with "YOU WERE"), I dedicate this song to our demented orange general (Micho le demago).

"Roll on thunder, shine on lightning
The days are long and the nights are frightenin'
Nothing matters anyway,
And that's the hell of it.

Winter comes and the winds blew colder
While some grew wiser, you just grew older
And you never listened anyway,
And that's the hell of it.

Good for nothing, bad in bed
Nobody likes you and you're better off dead
Goodbye, we've all come to say goodbye (goodbye)
Goodbye (goodbye)
Born defeated, died in vain
Super-destructive, you were hooked on pain
Though your MUSIC lingers on
All of us are glad YOU'RE gone

If I could live my life half as worthlessly as you
I'm convinced that I'd wind up burning too.

Love yourself as you loved no other
Be no man's fool and be no man's brother
We're all born to die alone, you know, that's the hell of it.

Life's a game where they're bound to beat you
And time's a trick it can turn to cheat you
And we only waste it anyway,
And that's the hell of it.

Good for nothing, bad in bed
Nobody liked you and you're better off dead
Goodbye, we've all come to say goodbye (goodbye)
Goodbye (goodbye)
Born defeated, died in vain
Super-destructive, you were hooked on pain
And though your MUSIC lingers on
"All of us are glad YOU'RE gone

Say it with music !

Long, very long days I have been having lately.
Long but very agreeable. Nevertheless I haven’t been able to get back home and go strait to bed. After having spent about eight hours a day (after my regular working schedule) talking to strangers and exchanging views and opinions (in a very diplomatic manner I might add) my body and soul is begging for a reprieve once I finally get home. So I indulge myself with a drink (or two), music, and the blogs I use to frequent daily. A few days ago, my friend Kheir posted some video clips on his page that took me back to a happier place; so today I follow his example and what trails is my contribution.
Away from politics, the current stalemate and the unforeseen future (being Lebanese), I thought I would share the following songs that were part of my teenage years:

1) My first heart flutter (when I was eleven) at the sight of beautiful Maya (whom until today doesn’t know that I had the biggest crush on her)

2) The song that I use to request at parties when I wanted to slow dance while whispering the lyrics into my girlfriend’s ear.

3) My first heartbreak at the age of fifteen.

4) The call to local radio stations (magic 102 and radio one) dedicating this song to the one who dumped me (and boy I was dumped many times!).

5) And finally the same song that was taped on a Maxwell 90 minute tape, that kept on playing in my room.

Different styles of music, depicting different moods. This was the way my generation used to express itself, before the time of guns, grenades and rockets!

I am forever thankful to those who came into my life, absent and present; and especially to those who are in it now.
Tonight I am filled with love, for I have spent the past 3 days away from news and politics, and in very good company.
A bon entendeur SALUT !

Those were the days my friend !

Another hot summer evening at home killing time, helping a friend with the final touches for tomorrow’s Biel exhibition.
As usual background music is playing (randomly) while sipping on an ice cold glass of Vodka when Gilbert Becaud’s singing “Je reviens te chercher” struck a chord.
All serious work stopped and reminiscing began.
The first memory recalled was that of “café Al 3er3ar” (Shalimar), the swing, the jukebox playing Becaud, Aznavour, Greco, Anka, Humperdink, Sinatra…etc; and my grand mother swinging my sister and me for hours.
The scandal when “Emmanuelle” first aired on local TV, or when Gainsbourg released his song “Je t’aime moi non plus”.
The trips early Sunday morning (during the summer) to Deir Mar Cha3ya, to buy fresh organic vegetables.
The “autos tamponneuses” at the Cocodi and their “scalestric” car racing circuit.
The evening turned into a contest of whom can remember the most.
Amongst the places mentioned were the old Spinneys by the airport road, the turf club, Saint Simon, Accapulco, Gooddies, Salem ice cream in Tripoli, Chocomax, 555 biscuit boxes, Bompani ovens, Clip hand cream, Tatleh and Biafra cigarettes, Velamos and chopper bicycles…etc.
Not a word about politics was uttered, not a single mention with regards to the civil war and our lost childhood was recalled. All three of us present spent hours listening to old songs and remembering places, happy experiences lived, old TV advertisements, shows and programs.
Now that my friends have gone home in order to surrender into Morpheus’s arms, I am left with a huge grin on my face and an uplifting sense of well being. For a few hours I had relived my youth (in Zoukak Al Blat) when my friends answered to names such as: Denis, Nabhan, Rawia, Khamis, Marc, Hiba, Michelle, Ahmad, Steve…etc; days when I could roam the streets of MY country with no fear of not making it back home alive.
This feeling (unfortunately) quickly collapsed when reality quickly sat in; and for that I can only thank my fellow Lebanese (graced by God with a selective memory) and our SOLD OUT political class.

An open invitation!

To those of you who appreciate art and have an inquisitive mind, I invite you to come to “Deco Follies” at the Biel from the 3rd until the 6th of July and visit Zeina Lteif’s stand where you will find a small percentage of her work on display. This emerging artist (who won the “prix signature” in France in 2006 when she first started painting) has a collection of works depicting different facets of her life. Each painting tells a story, from her struggle for freedom, motherhood, Love and anger, to the ailment of her mother land.
I invite all my readers to take the time to visit her stand and shake the hand, in recognition, of a true Lebanese mother who never gave up; and never will.

To all my readers, I thank you in advance.

And then they were three

In that year (1978) Israel crossed into southern Lebanon on March 15 and struck at PLO terrorist bases and staging areas south of the Litani River, up to ten kilometers deep inside the country. Twenty-one IDF soldiers were killed before the operation ended on March 21, 1978. In this year Genesis released their album entitled “And then there were three” (with Mike Rutherford). Tonight as I was pondering about the imminent release of Lebanese prisoners (live ones that is) within Israeli jails, “ballad of big” was playing in the background on vinyl (Call me old fashioned, I do not care), while sifting through different news agencies. Irony struck. I took a pause and listened to the music, and EUREKA! There are only three (Samir Kuntar, Yehia Skaff, and Ali Faratan). What a coincidence. Call it telepathy, a sign, an omen, a premonition, or even a nightmare; for me it was a wake up call.
Signs and posters are being made and erected in preparation for the release of the NEWLY FOUND resistance hero throughout the south (even though he belonged to a Palestinian faction). Another promise “fulfilled” will be shoved down our throats. Yes with this exchange of prisoners the Hizb will finally justify the July war (“free Samir Kuntar operation), and then what?
1200 dead, billions of dollars in damages is the price us Lebanese had to pay for the freedom of three thugs.
I used to be a proud southerner; I used to be a proud Lebanese; but no longer. I am part of a silent majority with hands shackled and voice muffled; waiting to get shafted up the ass once more.
Those about to be released soon can rot in hell as far as I am concerned, for they were never Lebanese; I long for the day when TRUE Lebanese, held and tortured north of our country (alive or dead, the thousands of them) will receive the welcome those FUCKS are getting, if ever they will return.
Tfeh!

Dumb and Dumber !

Tueini called for Saniora’s honorable retreat, Edde broke clean from M14 coalition, Kassem pointed his finger and reinstated the need for Hizbullah’s arms, Syria will fully cooperate (with IAEA), Israel undertook maneuvers aimed at hitting nuclear targets, USA and Iraq are in disagreement, ceasefire (for 6 months) is in place between Hamas and Israel in Gazza …etc; and Lebanon is fucked once again.
While our politicians are still squabbling about who gets the bigger share of the milking cow (the governmental institutions), geopolitics are once again changing. A “new found Christian” is trying his best to leave the white house with a shred of dignity (having fucked up royally in most of his foreign policies, especially Iraq), a head of a murderous oppressive regime (who recently was awarded the symbol of non-violence) back peddling in order to avoid the wrath of the above mentioned ˝new found Christian “, a mother country (mére patrie) attempting to relive it’s glory days within the “pays du Levant” by inviting Bashar to celebrate the commemoration of 14th of July (liberté, egalité, fraternité).
The Cedar Revolution has been filed along with most unresolved cases of power abuse, self enrichment, theft, breach of constitution, political murders…etc, under the pretext of avoiding civil strife (newly found excuse). Leaders from the wide spectrum of Lebanese political life took turns in justifying to their “flock” the stand which they all claim is the only salvation.
Even in the mind of the dumbest of the dumb, some questions should have been raised about such a change.
But NO.
The talk is all about the summer season, the 1.5 million tourists scheduled to come (ex-pats included), and the dollars Lebanon will reap.
In the US one can ;when push comes to shove, claim the 5th; in Lebanon we have a wider choice: Selective memory, fait accompli, no other alternative, lesser of two evils….etc; and most of all “wlek hayda Libnan”!
A million (debatable, remember “zoom I and zoom out?”) took to the streets in 2005 (when demonstrations where deemed illegal) in order to make their voice and aspirations heard. This same crowd FORCED the Syrian army to withdraw with it’s tail up Bashar’s ass. This very same crowd took down Karame’s cabinet.

Where is this crowd now?

Probably still waiting for our ROTTEN political class to dictate their moves, when it suits their own personal purpose/enrichment.

Fellow Lebanese, Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber) has a higher IQ than all of you put together.
You truly deserve to live under the Syrian boot !

Samir Kuntar . The return of the child killer!

Talk about freeing a murderer one year my senior has been hailed by some fellow Lebanese as yet another “Divine Victory”. Yes I am talking about the “hero” Samir Kuntar and his soon to be “shameless” release. Without a doubt our “Divine”/spiritual/ resistance/ leader will take credit for his safe return bombarding us with notions of how Samir was and still is the epitome of Hizbollah’s fight against the Zionist evil. On that ill fated day(and I do pray that it will never come) many of my fellow Lebanese (so called) will beat their chests in stupor in between speech poses delivered by the only patriotic leader (Hassouna that is).
To those FUCKS I would like to point out that Samir was never part of Hizbollah when he and 3 others (Abdel Majid Asslan, Mhanna Salim Al Muayed, Mohammad Al Abras) took it upon themselves to attack NAHARIYA in Israel in an operation they called “Nasser”. This operation was commissioned by the PLF (Palestinian Liberation Front) under the leadership of Abou Abbass (does Achille Lauro ring a bell to any one?).
After having killed a policeman who came across their way (that might be justified by some as part of a military operation) they split in two groups and the Hero to be, entered the apartment of the “Zionist” Dany Haran with intent to kill. The “soon to be hailed hero” took Dany and his daughter Einat (mother “Smadar”, other daughter “Yael” and a neighbor managed to hide) to the beach (and not for a picnic I can assure you). The “would be hero” shot Dany a close range and drowned him in the sea (to make sure he was dead, after all he is a thorough person) in front of his daughter (4 years of age, may I remind you), and then turned his rage (sorry Divine mission) against the child. He then started bashing her head with the butt of his riffle, and when need be using rocks to finish her off. This “so called hero” did not flinch.

Photobucket

The other tragedy is that while hiding, the mother (Smadar) in an attempt to muffle the sounds and moans of her 2 years old daughter (Yael) had suffocated her own child.
To cut a long story short, the only survivors of this “heroic adventures” (from the LEBANESE side) were Kuntar and his fellow “1/2 hero” Ahmad Al Abrass, who was later freed by Israel in the Ahmad Jibril prisoner exchange of May 1985.
Attempts were made by the PLF to free Kuntar when they hijacked the Achille Lauro where a wheel chair bound “Zionist” (Leon Klinghoffer) was murdered with no avail.
“The LEBANESE hero” Samir has admitted the murder of Dany and, yes wait for it, Einat; and was sentenced to spent the rest of his life in jail. Some “Zionists” even asked for the death penalty to be reinstated in this case.
Rumor has it that “Kuntar”, the Hezb newfound hero, will be released by the end of the month in exchange for the 2 (Goldwasser and Regev) DEAD soldiers that our Divine protector (Hasouna that is) took in 2006 causing the destruction of MY country.
How can any HUMAN rejoice and embrace the return of a cold blooded criminal and give him a hero’s welcome?
If ever Kuntar will be freed and delivered to the Lebanese (not the Hizb) authority, he should be tied for having killed an innocent child, and such a crime in Lebanon (the one I know) holds the death penalty.
To those who will rejoice for the return of such an evil incarnate, I say TFEH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will history come back to bite ME in the ass?

‘’Le désespoir de la jeunesse ‘’ was the title of a text posted on one of the blogs I frequent daily. The previous one on the same blog was labeled 1966, and both texts had touched a sensitive nerve. Little did I know that my son on his weekly visit will unintentionally add fuel to the fire!
When the war started I had just turned 12, and was in the process of discovering the effects of what is recognized as the weaker sex (for those who are foreign to this notion, women that is). I was infatuated with a classmate called Michelle H (blonde with green eyes) I spent most of my allowance buying her candy and chewing gum from “Cubitus” (the snack opposite the Lycee), and trying to let her allow me to walk her back home (Badaro) after school. Notes were exchanged in class during lectures, some were intercepted by teachers and I had to suffer the consequences for my actions.
Yesterday, when my son came over; he brought with him (In his jeans pocket) a note he received from a girl in his class in which she is declaring her love to him.

Photobucket

My son is about to turn 12; this brought back memories. Lebanon’s history has a knack of repeating itself, and this when I started to get worried. Memories came rushing in, memories of my first infatuation and what followed. 15 years of civil war, demarcation lines, unfounded prejudices, death, destruction, fanaticism, and most of all a lost childhood.

Photobucket

Yesterday I could not sleep. I started remembering how it all began and how I was catapulted into this cesspool of hatred, all that I have lost, and what I had to go through (and inflict onto others) before I came to my senses.
My son will turn 12 in October, I turned 12 a month before all hell broke loose; I hope and pray that Tarek (my son) will not have to make the same mistakes that I did for all the wrong reasons.
But then again this is Lebanon, and in this land of ours, history always comes back to bite you in the ass.
I will not sit idle and let my son go through the hell I have lived; the hell I am still trying to come to terms with. But I will not teach my son to turn the other cheek. I just pray and hope that Tarek will have the worries of any typical teenager, nothing more, nothing less!

A window into Lebanon

A friend I hold dear came back to her homeland in 2004, after having spent most of her adult life confined within the walls of “compounds”, in a one of the most restrictive countries. Filled with promises of a better life and a long earned freedom; she found herself facing a crude reality of what Lebanon truly is.
Her mother country fell short, not only with regards to her expectations and memories; but for the bleak future it had to offer to her offspring.
A citizen, a mother, a believer in self fulfillment; she sought the light at the end of the tunnel, making excuses and trying to adapt.
The task was too hard and heavy, and her road too winding and dark.
So she bit her lip and made do with the new cards that were dealt to her. “Elle a retroussé ses manches” and made do with what was on board.
Her only wish was not to regret the day where she traded the safety of her golden jail against an uncertain future for her children.
The above could not begin to describe what most of the Lebanese ex-pat feel when encountered with the harsh reality of Lebanese living. In order to make myself a tiny bit clearer, below are a few painting this friend made.

Searching for a small pocket of love , away from politics!

A mesage to my LEBANESE son !

Chante, oui chante
Aime la vie aime
Comm' un voyou comm' un fou comm' un chien
Comme si c'était ta dernière chance
Chante oui chante
Tu peux partir quand tu veux

Chante oui chante
Et tu verras que c'est bon
De laisser tomber sa raison
Sors par les fenêtres
Marche sur la t^te
Pour changer les traditions
Mais n'oublie pas.

Chante la vie chante

Predicting Lebanon's future.

A person I hold dear to my heart painted this picture a couple of years ago.
Many times did she ask for my help in order to fill the blank pages of the book, with no avail. Suggestions were made where by a quote from Gibran should be inserted or even Phoenicians calligraphy; we never came to an agreement. Today while updating her web page, in order to promote her art, we came across this old painting of hers.
In retrospect, I can only say that this painting was like a premonition for the uncertainty that plagued my country; from the presidential vacuum to the uncertainty of days to come.
It is now up to us, Lebanese, to fill the empty pages!

Epitaph

While waiting for youtube to upload (it has been over an hour now) a clip for my next blog, TV in the background (in case of "khabar 3ajel) and music playing; came this song by King Crimson. I thought "how appropriate", so I decided to share the lyrics.

“The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
As silence drowns the screams.

Between the iron gates of fate,
The seeds of time were sown,
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known;
Knowledge is a deadly friend
When no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
and laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying”.

R.I.P Lebanon

It is now official, Lebanon has been sold by what was supposed to be its protectors.
The powers of M14 have surrendered to the "divine" power. Evil has conquered!
PEOPLE OF THE CEDAR REVOLUTION REVOLT, OR LIVE IN SHAME !
LEBANON HAS CEASED TO EXIST !
PEOPLE OF LEBANON RECLAIM YOUR LAND, FOR IT HAS NOW BEEN INFESTED BY EVIL AND COWARDLY WARLORDS.
SAY NO TO HIZBOLLAH, TO THIS SOLD OUT GOVERNMENT, TO THOSE OUTSIDE POWERS WHO DID NOT DELIVER ON THEIR PROMISES (YET AGAIN), AND TO THOSE WHO ARE STILL BANKING ON THEM (OUTSIDE POWERS).
PEOPLE OF LEBANON REVOLT, BURN TIRES, ERECT BARRICADES, CLOSE DOWN MEDIA OUTLETS....ETC, FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE.
THE CEDAR REVOLUTION WAS TONIGHT EXECUTED BY THOSE WHO CLAIM STARTED IT. PEOPLE OF LEBANON NOW IS THE START OF YOUR YOUR FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL AND THE FIGHT FOR TRUE INDEPENDENCE. Act or be damned!

148000 DEAD IN 15 YEARS OF "CIVIL WAR" AND OVER 100 IN THE (NOW SUCCESSFUL) COUP D'ETAT, FOR WHAT? SURRENDER?
SHAME ON YOU SO CALLED LEADERS AND PROTECTORS OF DEMOCRACY!
TODAY I PISS AND SHIT ON THE GOVERNMENT AND I CALL UPON MY OWN JIHAD, THAT OF ALL THE LEBANESE, AND ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO DO NOT RELATE TO ANY OTHER TERMINOLOGY !
BURN ME AT THE STAKE, STONE ME, OR EVEN CRUCIFY ME; MY VOICE WILL NOT BE SILENCED!

Hizbollah, evil incarnate!

I will spare you a detailed account of what took place today for it is widely available on the internet, and most of you have been glued to your TV sets; therefore are in no need of a reminder.
A wide array of analysis and predictions were offered for you to pick whatever tickled your fancy.
Regardless of so called facts aired or written, no one can dispute the fact that Lebanon is being taken over by what was once praised as the Divine protector against the ultimate evil that is known as the state of Israel.
Many of times did I state that Hassounah and his thugs have one agenda and one only; that of imposing their own vision of Lebanon.
Can any of you, after today, still have a shadow of the doubt?
Hezb

Roads are closed, tires are burnt, threats are made, people are held hostage at the airport, Iranians are flying in, new tents are being erected…etc.
And the army does nothing!
Michel Suleiman (and the other Micho who called for the toppling of the government today) say nothing.
M14 in their infinite wisdom (or shall I say lack of balls) praise the appeasing role of the army in such a volatile situation. Shots have been fired, B7 rockets were used, stones were hurled (even at army personnel), citizens were stranded, roads blocked (for no valid reason); and still our men in green watched.
Can you still seriously wonder why the Lebanese people are rushing to buy arms?
It is about time my fellow Lebanese to “call a spade a spade”, enough with the talk of one sect (and one only) that has been ignored by past governments, one area (the south) left to rot. Poverty is no stranger to the 18 (19 if we still recognize the Lebanese Jews) communities that are part of this nation of ours.
This very same community pretending to be marginalized, used and abused; is not only better off (thanks to foreign aid, “al mal al halal”) but has sold its Lebanese identity to foreign powers (Iran). This community by doing so has revoked its Lebanese identity, therefore its rights.
I, unlike others, will not hide behind my little finger and still claim that I am willing to negotiate with the likes of Hizbollah and those who follow them; for they have renounced their Lebanese identity.

I call upon my people to revolt and fight this cancerous cell even at the risk of having to amputate!

For those of you who might think it extreme I say : “bite me”.

The time of reckoning has come.

The latest squabble with regards to security issues (or lack of dare I say) should be a clear enough indication that “dawlat al fakih” is now moving towards the application phase.
Iranian (so called tourists/students) parked in me3rab for hours, cameras by the airport, security apparatus in sensitive points belonging to the Hezb, parallel communication lines, private security zones, massive buying of lands, an Embassy that reclaims suspects for a couple of days, the army general giving thanks to an invading power, a French representative held by armed militias (with no repercussions)…etc.
Brace yourselves my fellow (dormant) Lebanese for the day of Hizbollastan might be coming (sooner than you ever imagined).
Blame no one but yourselves when the gates of hell will widely open and engulf what was once known as the land of many freedoms.
Today I am the prophet of doom, for I am convinced that none of the opposing leaders to such an evil project have the balls to publicly call for the true “Moukawameh”(it has been copywrited by our divine Hasaan) .
Those ill fated (M14) clueless idiots still awaits to reach a (honorable, in their own opinion) compromise, in order to avert what the speaker of our (now closed and dysfunctional) house of representative (Nabih Berri) called “al sharr al mousstatir (whatever that may mean).
Meanwhile within our borders, letters are being exchanged and deals are being made, at whose expense may I ask?
Talk about the Golan Heights and the jump start of peace negotiations with regards to a long standing Middle Eastern problem seem to be well on their way. But the local situation sure looks like it has been once again sold to higher and more important purpose. The “new born Christian”(G.W Bush) and his failed foreign policies can no longer hold ground and bring reassurance to the true believers in democracy (us Lebanese included).
Hizbollah, along with its allies (the demented general included) have shown us that they are the ones controlling our country and our fate.
On the opposing side we have a group of impotent asses hiding still willing to put the future of our country within the hands of yet another army general who cannot even apply a simple rule of law.
I am willing to cut my genitals with a blunt instrument, if anything will be done with regards to this latest breach in national security.
Michel Suleiman should never become president; he should be relieved of his functions.
The army should be given clear orders to restore the rule of law, even by force if need be.
Until the day will come where one of the biggest Lebanese religious sect will renounce fanaticism and foreign allegiance; we Lebanese (for they ARE NOT) have a duty not to let them have their way.
No to “Tawlet al hiwar”, NO to “la ghaleb wa la maghloub”, those are people that can never be trusted; those are people that have a higher purpose that spans way beyond the Lebanese border, those are people who never felt they belonged to this (once) great nation of MINE, those are the cancer that has made my country terminally ill.
THOSE ARE PEOPLE, WE SHOULD NOT EVEN REGARD AS PEOPLE !

Laisser venir a moi les petits enfants !

Yes I am a disillusioned Christian who has secured (according to the church) a front row seat in the kingdom of hell; I proclaim out loud that I am closer to God than the Pope will ever be.

Lost in the meanderings of religious teachings, and a spoon fed faith in my early years, I can now affirm that I am a better Christian than most of the men of the cloth I have had the misfortune to encounter.
Born in the Biblical land of milk ad honey; I have witnessed suffering inflicted by “the people of the book”. I have seen holy men act against their vows, and I have bared witness to the repercussions.
I even came to question God’s wisdom and his very existence. I even used such doubts as an excuse to my misdeeds.
I might have embarked on the wrongful path for a while, but found it not so fulfilling; on the contrary it brought me closer to understand my own spirituality.
Finally I can rest my weary head to sleep at night; not because I have changed in my convictions; but for I have encountered pure innocence.
Innocence that stemmed from the eyes of a deprived child; a child that did not even ask to be born. Not even an orphan, but a child that was abandoned by his own parents for some lame excuse. A child that will cling on to any iota of TLC a stranger could provide. A child willing to prostitute a smile for time spent even pretending that you care.
In this Biblical (my foot) land of milk and honey, we have forgotten the mission that was bestowed upon us (us children of the book, and not only Christians) to love and help one another; and yet we criticize the west and their (loose) values.

In a small village in Bikfaya called village ---…--- I found refuge. And moreover I found myself.
I have found a sense a being and belonging within the eyes of those, not only less fortunate but those who enjoy a “joie de vivre” second to none; for they do not know any better (and that is a shame). A community populated on an average of 85% of destitute, abandoned, orphaned, forgotten children; being taken care of by volunteers who are not foreign to their plights.
Yes you can go incognito and donate outgrown clothes and toys, and pretend that you have moved one step closer on the ladder to paradise. But if you ever have the courage to meet the kids; you are hooked for life.
Never (even with your own flesh and blood) would you see such happiness, love and gratitude than you would see at the “village S.O.S” or any other organization of the sort.
When you feel that life is pulling you down and you are down on your luck, take the trip and go and visit those who are less fortunate, it is cheaper than a therapist; and the ripple effects are much wider.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

La boheme version locale !

Je vous parle d’un temps
Il y’a plus de vingt ans
Le Liban était en guerre
Ses rues ensanglantées
Ne connaissant pas de paix
Jusqu’au plus loin recoins
Nous étions quelques uns
Une arme dans la main
Nous nous faisions la guerre
C’est la que tout a commencé
Moi dans mes illusions
Et toi dans tes pensées

Tant de haine, tant de haine
Qu’avons-nous fait de notre Liban ?
Tant de haine, tant de haine
On l’a brûlé, brûlé vivant.

Et les jours ont passés
Les semaines les années
Sans apaiser l’amertume
La mort a nos cotés
Le pays déchiré
Les canons battaient plus fort
Et quand une accalmie
Déversait une pluie
De mortiers et de balles
Ont allait se cacher
Au bas d’un escalier
Pour échapper au sort

Tant de haine, tant de haine
Qu’avons-nous fait de notre Liban ?
Tant de haine, tant de haine
On l’a brûle, brûle vivant.

Chaqu' un de son côté
Clamait la vérité
Ignorant nos cris
Nous plongeant dans un destin
Noire et incertain
Poussant notre pays
Vers des jours incertains
Et une jeunesse déchue
De toute joie de vivre
Et nous on les suivait
Sans même les questionner
Comme aveugles ou ivres

Tant de haine, tant de haine
Qu’avons-nous fait de notre Liban ?
Tant de haine, tant de haine
On l’a brûle, brûle vivant.

Maintenant qu’on a grandi
Les obstacles affranchis
Cette histoire se répète
La haine existe toujours
Dans les murs, dans les rues
Et nous crie a tû tête
Arrêter cette folie
Vivez en harmonie
Ou je vais cesser d’être
Le Liban vous appelle
De tout ses kilomètres
A vivre sous sa tutelle

Tant de haine, tant de haine
Qu’avons-nous fait de notre Liban ?
Tant de haine, tant de haine
On l’a brûle, brûle vivant.

13th of April; a stolen childhood !

This is nothing but, as we say back home “mourour al kiram”; depicting a small percentage of events which forged a generation that is now controlling the destiny of our nation and children.
I am part of this generation which is lost in limbo, somewhere between a false sense of patriotism and a deep guilt for having followed and engaged in acts that were against our morals and religious teachings.
This was Lebanon then.
I will leave it up to you to watch and formulate your own opinion.
N.B: Always keep in mind that this nothing but a mere fraction of what actually took place.

Thank you Gemmayzeh !!!

Thank you Mr Sarkiss and Mr Allouch, for having reminded me, that I took the wrong decision in investing in my own country.
Thank you for having opened my eyes to the fact that my contract (all dues paid in full, and then some more) could be breached for political purposes.
Thank you Gemmayzeh residents for charging me ridiculous rent on my premises, only to later complain that I have defaced your culturally protected neighbourhood, and what a culture I ask.
You took to the streets with slogans such as “bidna neim” (we want to sleep) when you were more than happy to rent us space that was not even fit for your dogs to live in.
We refurbished them at our own expense and put Gemmayzeh back on the map, and yet you repay us by circulating a petition that shuts many of us down.
Thank you for your loyalty, you ingrate bunch of “enculeurs de mouches” (and no do not excuse my French).
It was and still is a sad day, when in my restaurant I have to ask my customers to leave by 11.30.
May Sarkiss, Allouch and all of you rot in hell , and may all gemmayzeh resident be haunted once again by the emptiness and the eerie silence that once prevailed.
“Never bite the hand that feeds you", you ingrate maggots.
Ana beddeh 3ich.

Culturally handicapped

Away from politics, Gemayzeh and the fight for survival within this Lebanese jungle; I have sought refuge in the comfort of good company and French wine. Le club des cinq gathered tonight in the safety of a home safely tucked away in the mountains, for an evening away from the newly found restrictions that once did not exist. The evening started with the normal discussion about Allouch and Sarkis’s decision to push Lebanon one step closer towards Iranistan, and the reactions of yesterday’s punters towards the early closing of their respective watering holes. Sitting in the living room sipping on a crispy cold Pouilly le club des cinq was graced with a program on LBC hosted by 4 wannabe “pop in et dans le vent” female compatriots trying to brake social barriers. At first we all thought that this might be the beginning of some sort of avant garde free speech program that might bring a glimmer of hope to what we have come to know as a waste of air space.
4 Women and a male guest (Yehia Jaber), a self proclaimed journalist, poet, communist, revolutionary, free speaking…etc polluted the airways for a couple of hours. All throughout this portrayal of what has become acceptable as Lebanon’s contribution to the world of “le 7emme art” and free speech (and a few glasses down our throats) we could not help but compare what we were watching to the good old days; the days of “le theatre des dix heures” with Yvette Sursock, “3acher 3abid zghar”, “toute la ville chante”, Alec Khalaf (as suggested by J.W Chouchou and Al dinyeh Heyk)…etc.
Association d’idées, we switched on to Tal Al Zaatar, holiday Inn, Sabra & Chatila, Tanzim, Ahrar, Kateb, Mourabiton, Fath, Saika…etc; all those memories shoved way back in the deep recesses of our minds resurfaced again only to be mentioned but not discussed.
The only agreement was that we were all reminiscent of the days when our country was a cradle of culture, wit, free speech; and programs like the one we saw tonight would have never aired for the mere fact that it would not have found an audience.
Bring me back the glory days of channels 7, 5, 9 11, C33; even in black and white. Moreover bring me back Doreid Laham, Sissi imperatrice,Simon Templar,Allo Hayete, Ghawar al Tocheh.
I truly regret my snobbish attitude then, and in order to redeem myself, enclosed is a clip of those glory days.

Yes those were better days !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pardon Sleiman Beik, bedeh e7lbo !

Have we reached the bottom of the barrel, or is it a lack of social life that made me watch Suleiman Beyck tonight on what used to be the voice of Christian defiance (LBC). I thank my God (my private God) for whiskey and the beautiful company I was graced with, which made Suli’s televised “itlaleleh” more funny than it was supposed to be.
I will not bother to comment on his wisdom and political savvy, he doesn’t have any (in my own humble opinion). But what cracked me up and made me piss down my trousers was the use of : “ye7lebo” and “yil3an oukthoun” (more than once). According to Suli beyck my fellow Lebanese are masturbators with cursed sisters.
Thank you LBC for having shown us once again that you are pioneers and fervent adept of free speech. Sheikh Bashir is now rolling in his grave.
Thank you Suli, my dear me3az from the north for making me realize that in Lebanon, you don’t even need any form of education to become a leader, a minister, a politician...etc and have your moment of glory on LBC.

New set of BALLS !!!!!

The half witted accountant surprised me tonight with his“franc parler”. I wonder what it is that woke him up from his deep slumber and moreover what will be the repercussion of his speech. Although Saniora referred to Syria as the sister state; he did put the blame on the Syrian regime for the current vacuum, the sponsoring of armed Palestinian factions outside the confinement of refugee camps,…etc. Saniora echoed the voice of many Lebanese (and I am one of them).
How will Bashar react to his less then submissive speech, I fear the worst.
Yes I was pleasantly surprised by the speech of Mr. Saniora, I will by Sunday restrict my wonderings to the strict minimum and would suggest all people residing in Lebanon to do the same.
Stay safe.

The story of a middle aged man

A middle aged man with simple aspirations and dreams, tucked safely in his chosen exile far away, had the misfortune to believe in the homeland again; for God filled his home with the cries and laughter of a new born child. His heart could not contain the joy and pride; such a lovely boy, an heir to the throne, someone to carry on the legacy. Five weeks of paternity leave made him realize that he could no longer be on call and fly at a short notice to the four corners of the world, catering for those with no family values and ties. Relaxing one evening, over a glass of wine and Dylan singing in the background (while baby asleep) the mother came with the idea of the return to the homeland. Calmly (but calculating) she argued the notions of cultural differences, better values, family, early retirement, and the “Paris of the Middle East”. It did not take much arguing before this middle aged man started proceedings to liquidate businesses and take the next plane home in search for business opportunities (10 days). Although the separation was hard to bare (endless daily phone calls), within five weeks all was set. Less than a month to pack home and the move was made.
All was rosy in the very beginning and the future looked very bright, a small puppy was added to this blessed family and old friendships rekindled. While rediscovering the mother land (re-vamped) this middle aged man was surprised to see slogans and car stickers that made him truly believe that the fifteen years of war were forgotten and forgiven by his fellow citizens. Every day on his journey to work he would listen to Timbuk3 “the future is so bright I got to wear shades” and fight the traffic (the pot holes, the bad drivers, unsafe cars...etc) with a big smile on his face, after all this is part of Lebanon’s charm he tried to convince himself.
Little did this middle aged man know that in his homeland personal checks would bounce, promissory notes are mostly never honoured, bank managers could be bribed, contracts (even with penalty clauses to both parties) could be breached with no consequences, cash money could be counterfeit, and payments always delayed!
Well needless to say the shit did hit the fan, his family of four was split in half, the business partner (a family member) took off to Canada (with his life savings); and the middle aged man was left to clean up the mess in his homeland with divisions much greater than the ones that pushed him into exile.
This middle aged man did not resign to his fate, but grew more attached to his son and to his country.
This middle aged man rebuilt his life (and still is in the process) with an ever growing belief in his heritage.
This middle aged man has a duty to towards his son to make him proud of his Lebanese decent although he was born British.
This middle aged man, after having lived the civil war and witnessing the current bullshit, can spit in the face of all current politicians.
This middle aged man will never give up, and will never be silenced !

Hizbollah's portfolio of patriotism !

The following are some of Hizbollah's and some other (in order to be fair) Iranian's puppets portfolio of patriotic acts:

The kidnapping (in many cases slaying) of:
1. Reverend Lawrence Martin Jenco (a man of the cloth).
2. Jeremy Levin (reporter).
3. Terry Anderson (reporter).
4. David Jacobsen (director of the American University Hospital).
5. Thomas Sutherland (educator).
6. Passengers of TWA flight 847 (innocent people).
7. Reverend Benjamin Weir (another man of the cloth)
8. Michel Seurat (reporter).
9. Four French TV crew members (march 8, 1986).
10. Peter Kilburn and two Britons found dead.
11. Frank Reid (educator).
12. Joseph Cicipio (American University Of Beirut controller).
13. Terry Wait (envoy to the Archbishop of Canterbury).
14. Allan Steen, Jesse Turner, Robert Polhill & Mitheleshwar Singh (educators).
15. Charles Glass (reporter).
16. Jean Louis Normandin & Roger Auque (reporters).
17. Lt. Col. William Higgins (UN truce monitoring officer).
18. William R. Higgins (Col. US Marines).
19. Brian Keenan (Irish Author).
20. John McCarthy (TV Producer).
21. Edward Tracy.
22. Jerome Leyraud.
23. Jack Mann (ex pilot who lived most of his life in Lebanon).
I will not dwell into the purpose of all those actions (If Ronald Regan was still alive I would tell you to ask him), but I will ask you why JACK MAN (This elderly person who chose Lebanon as a home), Lawrence Martin Jenco (A religious man of a different faith), David Jacobsen (a healer), passengers on the TWA 847 (innocent bystanders), Benjamin Weir (another religious man from a different faith), Lt. Col. William Higgins (a peace keeper), and most of all Terry Waite.

Granted all the above mentioned victims were not solely the doings of Hizbollah, but in their majority they were (by the Hezb’s own admission).
And yet those thugs want to be part of the decision process and they claim tolerance and respect for different beliefs.
In all fairness I also recall, since I am old enough, the hiring of Somali (amongst others) “mourtazaka” by the “Iztaz’s” party who fought against fellow Lebanese. I also recall the massacres of Sabra and Chatila, Tal al Za3tar…etc.
One should not forget its bloody history, but one should not FORGIVE.

If we are ever to live free, we should rid ourselves of guilt (we should start by admitting it first). Let each faction call their fight a “Holly War”, revert back to the “crusades” or the “futuhat” and destroy one another.
Please do so, but do no longer pretend that your cause is divine ya Hassan, for it is NOT!

Tres cher Sayyed Hassan

Enclosed a text I wrote (sorry in French)during the early days of the Nahr Al Bared battle, after dear Hassouna went on Tv and graced us with his wisdom and words of encouragement. Minus of few changes (my hatred for him has grown even stronger)the sentiments are still almost the same.

Hizbollah's manifesto English version, courtesy of ACE !

Our Identity
We are often asked: Who are we, the Hizballah, and what is our identity? We are the sons of the umma (Muslim community) - the party of God (Hizb Allah) the vanguard of which was made victorious by God in Iran. There the vanguard succeeded to lay down the bases of a Muslim state which plays a central role in the world. We obey the orders of one leader, wise and just, that of our tutor and faqih (jurist) who fulfills all the necessary conditions: Ruhollah Musawi Khomeini. God save him!

By virtue of the above, we do not constitute an organized and closed party in Lebanon. nor are we a tight political cadre. We are an umma linked to the Muslims of the whole world by the solid doctrinal and religious connection of Islam, whose message God wanted to be fulfilled by the Seal of the Prophets, i.e., Muhammad. This is why whatever touches or strikes the Muslims in Afghanistan, Iraq, the Philippines and elsewhere reverberates throughout the whole Muslim umma of which we are an integral part. Our behavior is dictated to us by legal principles laid down by the light of an overall political conception defined by the leading jurist (wilayat al-faqih).

As for our culture, it is based on the Holy Koran, the Sunna and the legal rulings of the faqih who is our source of imitation (marja' al-taqlid). Our culture is crystal clear. It is not complicated and is accessible to all.

No one can imagine the importance of our military potential as our military apparatus is not separate from our overall social fabric. Each of us is a fighting soldier. And when it becomes necessary to carry out the Holy War, each of us takes up his assignment in the fight in accordance with the injunctions of the Law, and that in the framework of the mission carried out under the tutelage of the Commanding Jurist.

Our Fight
The US has tried, through its local agents, to persuade the people that those who crushed their arrogance in Lebanon and frustrated their conspiracy against the oppressed (mustad'afin) were nothing but a bunch of fanatic terrorists whose sole aim is to dynamite bars and destroy slot machines. Such suggestions cannot and will not mislead our umma, for the whole world knows that whoever wishes to oppose the US, that arrogant superpower, cannot indulge in marginal acts which may make it deviate from its major objective. We combat abomination and we shall tear out its very roots, its primary roots, which are the US. All attempts made to drive us into marginal actions will fail, especially as our determination to fight the US is solid.

We declare openly and loudly that we are an umma which fears God only and is by no means ready to tolerate injustice, aggression and humiliation. America, its Atlantic Pact allies, and the Zionist entity in the holy land of Palestine, attacked us and continue to do so without respite. Their aim is to make us eat dust continually. This is why we are, more and more, in a state of permanent alert in order to repel aggression and defend our religion, our existence, our dignity. They invaded our country, destroyed our villages, slit the throats of our children, violated our sanctuaries and appointed masters over our people who committed the worst massacres against our umma. They do not cease to give support to these allies of Israel, and do not enable us to decide our future according to our own wishes.

In a single night the Israelis and the Phalangists executed thousands of our sons, women and children in Sabra and Shatilla. No international organization protested or denounced this ferocious massacre in an effective manner, a massacre perpetrated with the tacit accord of America's European allies, which had retreated a few days, maybe even a few hours earlier, from the Palestinian camps. The Lebanese defeatists accepted putting the camps under the protection of that crafty fox, the US envoy Philip Habib.

We have no alternative but to confront aggression by sacrifice. The coordination between the Phalangists and Israel continues and develops. A hundred thousand victims - this is the approximate balance sheet of crimes committed by them and by the US against us. Almost half a million Muslims were forced to leave their homes. Their quarters were virtually totally destroyed in Nab'a, my own Beirut suburb, as well as in Burj Hammud, Dekonaneh, Tel Zaatar, Sinbay, Ghawarina and Jubeil - all in areas controlled today by the 'Lebanese Forces',. The Zionist occupation then launched its usurpatory invasion of Lebanon in full and open collusion with the Phalanges. The latter condemned all attempts to resist the invading forces. They participated in the implementation of certain Israeli plans in order to accomplish its Lebanese dream and acceded to all Israeli requests in order to gain power.

And this is, in fact, what happened. Bashir Jumayyil, that butcher, seized power with the help also of OPEC countries and the Jumayyil family. Bashir tried to improve his ugly image by joining the six-member Committee of Public Safety presided over by former President Elias Sarkis, which was nothing but an American-Israeli bridge borrowed by the Phalangists in order to control the oppressed. Our people could not tolerate humiliation any more. It destroyed the oppressors, the invaders and their lackeys. But the US persisted in its folly and installed Amin Jumayyil to replace his brother. Some of his first so called achievements were to destroy the homes of refugees and other displaced persons, attack mosques, and order the army to bombard the southern suburbs of Beirut, where the oppressed people resided. He invited European troops to help him against us and signed the May 17th, [1984] accord with Israel making Lebanon an American protectorate.

Our people could not bear any more treachery. It decided to oppose infidelity - be it French, American or Israeli - by striking at their headquarters and launching a veritable war of resistance against the Occupation forces. Finally, the enemy had to decide to retreat by stages.

Our Objectives
Let us put it truthfully: the sons of Hizhallah know who are their major enemies in the Middle East - the Phalanges, Israel, France and the US. The sons of our umma are now in a state of growing confrontation with them, and will remain so until the realization of the following three objectives:

(a) to expel the Americans. the French and their allies definitely from Lebanon, putting an end to any colonialist entity on our land;
(b) to submit the Phalanges to a just power and bring them all to justice for the crimes they have perpetrated against Muslims and Christians;
(c) to permit all the sons of our people to determine their future and to choose in all the liberty the form of government they desire. We call upon all of them to pick the option of Islamic government which, alone, is capable of guaranteeing justice and liberty for all. Only an Islamic regime can stop any further tentative attempts of imperialistic infiltration into our country.
These are Lebanon's objectives; those are its enemies. As for our friends, they are all the world's oppressed peoples. Our friends are also those who combat our enemies and who defend us from their evil. Towards these friends, individuals as well as organizations, we turn and say:
Friends, wherever you are in Lebanon... we are in agreement with you on the great and necessary objectives: destroying American hegemony in our land; putting an end to the burdensome Israeli Occupation; beating back all the Phalangists' attempts to monopolize power and administration.
Even though we have, friends, quite different viewpoints as to the means of the struggle, on the levels upon which it must be carried out, we should surmount these tiny divergencies and consolidate cooperation between us in view of the grand design.
We are an umma which adheres to the message of Islam. We want all the oppressed to be able to study the divine message in order to bring justice, peace and tranquillity to the world. This is why we don't want to impose Islam upon anybody, as much as we that others impose upon us their convictions and their political systems. We don't want Islam to reign in Lebanon by force as is the case with the Maronites today. This is the minimum that we can accept in order to be able to accede by legal means to realize our ambitions, to save Lebanon from its dependence upon East and West, to put an end to foreign occupation and to adopt a regime freely wanted by the people of Lebanon.
This is our perception of the present state of affairs. This is the Lebanon we envision. In the light of our conceptions, our opposition to the present system is the function of two factors; (1) the present regime is the product of an arrogance so unjust that no reform or modification can remedy it. It should be changed radically, and (2) World Imperialism which is hostile to Islam.

We consider that all opposition in Lebanon voiced in the name of reform can only profit, ultimately, the present system. All such opposition which operates within the framework of the conservation and safeguarding of the present constitution without demanding changes at the level of the very foundation of the regime is, hence, an opposition of pure formality which cannot satisfy the interests of the oppressed masses. Likewise, any opposition which confronts the present regime but within the limits fixed by it, is an illusory opposition which renders a great service to the Jumayyil system. Moreover, we cannot be concerned by any proposition of political reform which accepts the rotten system actually in effect. We could not care less about the creation of this or that governmental coalition or about the participation of this or that political personality in some ministerial post, which is but a part of this unjust regime.

The politics followed by the chiefs of political Maronism through the 'Lebanese Front' and the 'Lebanese Forces' cannot guarantee peace and tranquillity for the Christians of Lebanon, whereas it is predicated upon 'asabiyya (narrow-minded particularism), on confessional privileges and on the alliance with colonialism. The Lebanese crisis has proven that confessional privileges are one of the principal causes of the great explosion which ravaged the country. It also proved that outside help was of no use to the Christians of Lebanon, just when they need it most. The bell tolled for the fanatic Christians to rid themselves of denominational allegiance and of illusion deriving from the monopolization of privileges to the detriment of other communities. The Christians should answer the appeal from heaven and have recourse to reason instead of arms, to persuasion instead of confessionalism.

To the Christians
If you, Christians, cannot tolerate that Muslims share with you certain domains of government, Allah has also made it intolerable for Muslims to participate in an unjust regime, unjust for you and for us, in a regime which is not predicated upon the prescriptions (ahkam) of religion and upon the basis of the Law (the Shari’a) as laid down by Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets. If you search for justice, who is more just than Allah? It is He who sent down from the sky the message of Islam through his successive prophets in order that they judge the people and give everyone his rights. If you were deceived and misled into believing that we anticipate vengeance against you - your fears are unjustified. For those of you who are peaceful, continue to live in our midst without anybody even thinking to trouble you.

We don't wish you evil. We call upon you to embrace Islam so that you can be happy in this world and the next. If you refuse to adhere to Islam, maintain your ties with the Muslims and don't take part in any activity against them. Free yourselves from the consequences of hateful confessionalism. Banish from your hearts all fanaticism and parochialism. Open your hearts to our Call (da'wa) which we address to you. Open yourselves up to Islam where you'll find salvation and happiness upon earth and in the hereafter. We extend this invitation also to all the oppressed among the non-Muslims. As for those who belong to Islam only formally, we exhort them to adhere to Islam in religious practice and to renounce all fanaticisms which are rejected by our religion.

World Scene
We reject both the USSR and the US, both Capitalism and Communism, for both are incapable of laying the foundations for a just society.

With special vehemence we reject UNIFIL as they were sent by world arrogance to occupy areas evacuated by Israel and serve for the latter as a buffer zone. They should be treated much like the Zionists. All should know that the goals of the Phalangists regime do not carry any weight with the Combatants of the Holy War, i.e., the Islamic resistance. This is the quagmire which awaits all foreign intervention.

There, then, are our conceptions and our objectives which serve as our basis and inspire our march. Those who accept them should know that all rights belong to Allah and He bestows them. Those who reject them, we'll be patient with them, till Allah decides between us and the people of injustice.

The Necessity for the Destruction of Israel (See ICT Note)
We see in Israel the vanguard of the United States in our Islamic world. It is the hated enemy that must be fought until the hated ones get what they deserve. This enemy is the greatest danger to our future generations and to the destiny of our lands, particularly as it glorifies the ideas of settlement and expansion, initiated in Palestine, and yearning outward to the extension of the Great Israel, from the Euphrates to the Nile.

Our primary assumption in our fight against Israel states that the Zionist entity is aggressive from its inception, and built on lands wrested from their owners, at the expense of the rights of the Muslim people. Therefore our struggle will end only when this entity is obliterated. We recognize no treaty with it, no cease fire, and no peace agreements, whether separate or consolidated.

We vigorously condemn all plans for negotiation with Israel, and regard all negotiators as enemies, for the reason that such negotiation is nothing but the recognition of the legitimacy of the Zionist occupation of Palestine. Therefore we oppose and reject the Camp David Agreements, the proposals of King Fahd, the Fez and Reagan plan, Brezhnev's and the French-Egyptian proposals, and all other programs that include the recognition (even the implied recognition) of the Zionist entity.

It is possible that this ommision is due to the fact that the source (al-Safir) for the translation did not include this text, which appears in the original Hizballah Program. The original Program was published on 16 February 1985. The organization's spokesman, Sheikh Ibrahim al-Amin read the Program at the al-Ouzai Mosque in west Beirut and afterwards it was published as an open letter "to all the Opressed in Lebanon and the World". It should be emphasised that none of Hizballah's web sites have published the full text of the organization's program, and they prefer to publish the 1996 electoraral program which was intended for the specific propoganda campaign before the Lebanese Parliamentary elections in 1996.

The ramblings of a disillusioned Lebanese!

My son sound asleep hoping for the snow storm to hit before school starts on Monday. Me, with my drink at hand, flicking through TV channels. “Escarmouche“ between Amal, Moustakbal, Hizbollah; the army intervenes, with no details. Some TV stations claims that the rift started because of lady (a Haifa look alike most probably), then each station went by airing their usual senseless stream of vulgarity. For a few seconds, scenes of youngsters lying on stretchers waiting to be taken to hospital. No words were spoken, no official statement was made. Al hurra, LBC, New Tv, O TV, Future X2, NBN, Al Jazira, Al Arabia…etc had texts scrolling on the bottom of their screens announcing that clashes are taking place in various areas of Beirut; with no details.
Still no communiqué from army or ISF. Talk of Molotov cocktails, Hizbollah quarters, Amal and Future followers, sporadic gun shots…etc; and still no communiqué from the army or the ISF.
And yet Michel Suleiman, went to pay his condolences to the Hizb and shared his sorrow for the loss of that great “moukawem” that Imad was.
And still M14 leaders reassured the Lebanese people that Michel Suleiman will be elected before the “Kumma Arabia” which will take place in Syria next month.
And still Lebanese people listened.
I switched off the TV, refilled my glass, went to my son’s room and placed a kiss on his forehead, took my gun out of its locked closet; and placed next to me.
No, I no longer believe in the gung ho theory; but I do believe that my country is no longer safe. I am not calling for “vigilante” style self security; I am demanding the rule of law.
Faute de mieux, I will protect my son and myself!
And still they talk of independence, freedom, sovereignty…etc, when they can’t even protect themselves, let alone insure public safety.
Tfeh!
